The prisoner and treasure hunter agree to a temporary alliance in order to hunt for the Red Lady's origins - a forgotten oasis somewhere in the south Egyptian wastes.
The senator sets off with a military attachment to chase these protagonists down. The prisoner explains that Alexander the Great originally received the Red Lady, on his quest to defeat the ultimate enemy - his own mortality.
